Luke Keith’s diary entries of November 5-30, 1873

Nov 5 – Lucys Baby died about ten AM.[104] Sarah came home. Alfleda came. Pleasant day. Husked corn all day. Hawley dug potatoes for J. C. Blake.

Nov 6 – Pleasant morning. Drawed corn some.

Nov 7 – Drawed one load corn. Went down to Catharines to funeral. Lucys Baby buried to day. Came home in Evening. Rained.

Nov 8 – Drawed sleepers out to barn and some straw.

Nov 9 – At home. Nancy and Jim went over to Barbers. I gathered some Hickory nuts. Snowed and rained some.

Nov 10 – Nancy came home this morning. Received of Town Treasurer twenty five Dollars. Paid James McLarry Eleven and fifteen 100 Dollars. Alfledas Box came 75 cts Express Charge.

Nov 11 – Went up to sawmill got 256 feet baswood boards ½ inch. Snowed like fun. Snow fell 2 inches. Husked 15 bushels corn. Hawley helped one hour and a half.

Nov 12 – Snowey. Husked out what corn there was in the barn.

Nov 13 – Put in floor in stable. Put horses in.

Nov 14 – Put manger in stable. Hawley went to mill. Sent three bushels Buckwheat, one of corn.

Nov 15 – Killed hog, the one I got of Mart. Worked in stable some. Fine day. Wes got plank.

Nov 16 – Lucy and Hannah came up.

Nov 17 – Sawed out Worked in stable on stalls. Ethan and A. Brown went to Kalamazoo after Hanks things.

Nov 18 – Sawed out out thills for wagon, one for sleigh. Stormy day.

Nov 19 – Hawley Killed his black pig. Brown brot up some of hanks things. Paid Mrs Chipman $5.00 five Dollars for cleaning school house. Worked on thills some.

Nov 20 – Worked in barn some on stall. Got stick up to corner. Bradley and Theodore after some ___ails.

Nov 21 – Dick barber brot cross cut saw to be filed. Pedler Layton called here. Sawed out raves for bobs. Drawed in lot corn. Filled barn floor. Fine day.

Nov 22 – Finished hawleys sleigh thill, painted thill. Mr Flanders got his handles. Brot paint down. Hank came home from Chicago.

Nov 23 – Sick all day. Snowey.

Nov 24 – Snow 2½ inches this morning. Hawley gone over to help his father[105] kill beef. Theron went to Battlecreek. Old cow kicked me. Uncle Sam Curtis Died to day Ae 87 yr.[106]

Nov 25 – Worked on bobs some. Snow 3 inches. Husked corn some. Hawley helped J. C. Blake thrash.

Nov 26 – Snows some. Hawley gone up to Blakes. Aunt Mima Curtis Died to day Ae 84 yrs.[107]

Nov 27 – Cleared out shop. Hank and Nancy here. Snow 1¾ inches. Hawley up to Blakes.

Nov 28 – Snow ¾ inches. Jim went down to Catharines.

Nov 29 – Cut out some battings for shop. Will Plank came. Ethan down to Catharines.

Nov 30 – At home all day. Hawleys folks went over with boys just at night with sleigh.
