Luke Keith’s diary entries of March 1-8, 1863

Mar 1 – Some snow in the morning went of before noon. Went over to Fathers cattle got out.

Mar 2 – Snows like fun. Bot Box matches 13¢. Lent Lankford Burdick 2¢ Burdick paid 5¢. Worked on wheelbarrow. Thysa Pond & Sol Youngs married.[28]

Mar 3 – Pleasant one inch snow. Mrs Stevenson paid 1.70¢. Worked on wheelbarrow. James Flanders here. Vergin Signor here.

Mar 4 – Worked on wheelbarrow. Filed saw for Dray Barber 15¢ filed saw for stranger 15¢. Jo Flanders here. Hank Bennets Father died to day.

Mar 5 – Finished Galligans wheelbarrow. Made boulster for David Hambleton 50¢. He paid 50¢.

Mar 6 – Finished Milfords Ex. Bixby got his wheel. John Pilgrim paid 15. Beer 10¢. Worked on bob. Glued Frank Austins violin.

Mar 7 – Dressed out some fence rails. Father sold the oxen 3150 lbs. Filed saw for A. Austin 15. Bot hoops for girls 1.00. Bot ½ bushel apples 25¢.

Mar 8 – Went over to Fathers. Mark came up. Mrs Voce with them.

[28] A search of Ancestry.com shows that Solomon Young of Pavilion and Terressa Pond of Galesburg were married on March 2, 1863 at “the home of the bride’s father.” Witnesses were Chas Bailey and S. J. Galagan
